Boxer opens milestone 400th store

| Store Openings

Boxer, a Discount Supermarket with roots in KZN, has opened its 400th store! The ‘community champion’ as it’s known as, has been serving shoppers for 45 years.

The Discount Supermarket group, which began trading in 1977 in the KZN North Coast town of Empangeni has grown in leaps and bounds over the past four and a half decades. With Superstore, Liquor and Build Divisions supported by a Meat Factory and five Distribution Centres located throughout SA, the Discounter has embedded itself firmly in communities across South Africa and eSwatini.

The 400th Store, Boxer Hebron Mall is located in the North West. The Store hosted a grand opening celebration on the 27th of October complete with special edition Boxer trucks, branded taxis and more activations in-store and in-mall than you could throw a Boxer branded balloon at. “The opening of our latest offering, Boxer Hebron Mall was superb and a complete representation of what Boxer is at this very moment. We’re proudly local, we are convenient and we offer an all under one service for our shoppers, across hundreds of towns and cities. Hebron Mall is a massive and impressive new mall, catering to thousands of shoppers and Boxer is right there in the middle of it all, a calm yet exciting space where shoppers can find everything they want and need, in one place,” said Boxer Managing Executive Marek Masojada.  Boxer’s 400th store achievement is also one of innovation and growth. They’ve got bakeries, butcheries, fresh fruit and veg sections and hot food delis that are complemented by B-Money Kiosks that cater for all sorts of needs, from the purchasing of bus and flight tickets, to account payments, banking and more.

What’s more is that Boxer is a hyper local employer, ensuring that those who work at Boxer are, whenever possible, from the area that the store serves. Community assistance and involvement is a cornerstone for the business, and built into each store’s DNA. “We serve our customers with a smile and outstanding promotions and deals as a Discounter, but we also reach out and assist the communities that shop with us. We believe in our communities as much as they believe in Boxer and what we offer so we make it our main aim to find more ways to help those in need,” said Ntombi Dludla,  Boxer’s Group Executive for Stakeholder, Sustainability & Transformation.

It’s not just people and product that sits atop the minds at Boxer. Going green and maintaining efforts to reduce the impact on the planet is an integral part of the brand and it shows. Boxer Hebron Mall was the first Boxer store to replace regular refrigeration systems with a world leading Trans-critical CO2 Refrigeration system which, from an environmental perspective is a powerful tool to combat issues such as Ozone depletion as its 100% naturally occurring, is non-toxic, and is vital to the life cycle of plants and animals and non-flammable. It also has zero ozone depleting potential.

As Boxer continues on its rapid growth and expansion campaign, the team behind the success of the first 400 stores have promised to remain true to the ethos that brought the supermarket group to where they are today by focusing on people and seeking out new ways to ensure that customers should ‘Never Pay More Than The Boxer Price.’
